My name is Scott, and I’m an alcoholic in recovery. Sober Readings grew out of my own experience with sobriety and a simple belief that sometimes hearing the right words at the right time can make a difference in someone’s day.
Through the podcast, I share readings from AA and other recovery literature along with my own thoughts and experiences with sobriety, relapse, the Twelve Steps, fellowship, and the everyday work of staying sober. I’m not a clinician or an expert on recovery. I’m simply sharing what I’ve learned, what I continue to learn, and the things that help me along the way.

More Than a Podcast
Sober Readings is also about connection. I want this to be a place where other people in recovery can share their experience, strength, and hope too. Whether you have one day sober or many years, I hope you’ll find something here that helps you keep moving forward—one day at a time.
Why I Started Sober Readings
Sober Readings started during a time when I realized I needed to strengthen my own recovery and reconnect with something that had always helped keep me sober – the literature. I’ve always found something powerful in hearing another alcoholic read a passage and then talk about what those words mean in their own life. The same paragraph I’ve read many times can suddenly mean something completely different when I hear it through someone else’s experience.
The podcast became my way of making those readings part of my daily routine while also sharing them with others. Over time, it has grown into something more than that. It has become another way for me to stay connected to recovery, to keep learning, and hopefully to give something back to the fellowship that has given me so much.
I don’t expect every reading or reflection to speak to everyone. But if something you hear on Sober Readings helps you get through a difficult morning, think about your recovery differently, pick up the phone, get to a meeting, or simply make it through another day sober, then the podcast is doing exactly what I hoped it would do.
Just for today: Don’t drink. Go to a meeting. Keep coming back.
A Little About Me
Outside of Sober Readings, I’m a U.S. military veteran, ultrarunner, author, and lifelong work in progress. Running has become an important part of my life and recovery, teaching me a lot about discipline, perseverance, and doing hard things even when I don’t feel like doing them. My experiences with sobriety, relapse, family, work, and simply trying to become a better person all find their way into the conversations and reflections I share here.
